It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our permanent Deacon Rev. Nigel Bavidge this afternoon (17th August 2010) in Overgate Hospice, Elland, surrounded by his wife Liz, Fin his son, and Gabrielle his daughter, fortified with the rites of the church.
Nigel has served this parish of the Good Shepherd for the last fourteen years unstintingly. He has been guide, counsellor and friend to many, and happy to make 'bacon butties' after Mass on Sundays!
We have been much blessed by his life and work in this community. Many have been blessed in other areas of his work with Rainbows, the deaf, education and especially St Monica's school in Carlisle, and not least in his keep-fit centre in Halifax.
Nigel was diagnosed with cancer eight months ago and we thank all who supported him especially the doctors and Overgate Hospice during this time.
We offer our prayers, sympathy and support to his wife Liz, Fin his son, his daughter Gabrielle, James her husband and his two grandsons who were his delight.
May he rest in peace and rise to new life with Christ.
Funeral Arrangements: Wednesday 25th August 7.00pm Reception into Good Shepherd Church followed by Vigil Mass. Thursday 26th August 11.30am Requiem Mass in St Mary's Church, Gibbet Street, Halifax.
