In 1891 Fr Maximillian Tilliman was appointed as first parish priest. He took over two Mass Centres in Hebden Bridge and Luddenden Foot. He immediately set about building churches for these Mass Centres. St Thomas of Canterbury was erected in 1896 in Hebden Bridge and St Wallburga's Church in Luddenden Foot in 1897. In 1991 The Good Shepherd Church in Mytholmroyd replaced these buildings as well as St Peter and St Paul's Church in Mytholmroyd. In 2011 The Good Shepherd Church celebrates its twentieth anniversary.
