PRAYER NETWORK

St George

Was a soldier in the Roman army in Palestine who became a Christian.

This caused him to witness to his beliefs in a time of persecution by the Romans and for which he gave his life.

Many Middle Eastern Nations and faiths hold him in high regard and he is a role-model for all who stand for the principles of truth, love, freedom, understanding, and chivalry

AIMS OF THE PRAYER NETWORK

  1. To encourage peace and understanding of the different faith traditions.

  1. To involve members of the different faiths and traditions in praying for each other.

  1. To re-address the misappropriation of

St George by groups which would oppose peace and understanding, and instead create fear and suspicion.

To achieve these aims by

  1. Asking members of each community to be a prayer-twin of another faith

  1. For these members to light a candle and pray  at  7.00pm on the 23rd day of each month and say the following prayer:

The Prayer

Make me a channel of your peace;

Where there is hatred let me bring your love.

Where there is injury – your pardon

Where there’s doubt – your faith

Where there’s despair – your hope

Where there’s darkness – your Light

Where there’s sadness – your joy

Oh  God of Omnipotence and love

Grant that

We may not seek :

to be consoled – but to console

To be understood – but to understand

To be loved - but to love

For it is in

Pardoning – that we are pardoned

In giving to all – that we receive

And in dying – that we are re-born to eternal life

(from the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi)
